Between the Lines
Read, reflect, be inspired. What flows from my pen, beyond dentistry.
A good doctor must first be a good person; a good listener, and a reader who never stops being curious.Dt. Buket Çikolar
Every smile has its own handwriting
No one can sign the same signature twice. A smile is the same; in the line of the teeth and the curve of the lip, a person’s whole story lies hidden.

Fifteen minutes in the chair
For the first fifteen minutes of a first visit, I don’t pick up a single instrument. Those minutes belong to listening.
02BooksThe courage of simplicity
Writing “Sade”, the hardest part was not adding but taking away. Trimming the excess from a sentence is much like trimming it from a smile.
03Clinic NotesEvery fitting begins with listening
A tailor looks at the client before ever touching the cloth. That is why I love the word bespoke.
04RitualsA glass of water, a spoonful of oil
The quietest five minutes of my morning. Time I keep for myself before I look at a screen.
05EssaysMy mother’s mirror
In the hallway of our home in Gaziantep hung an oval mirror. It was there that I first practised smiling.
06Clinic NotesGetting to know fear
Telling someone afraid of the dentist that “there’s nothing to be afraid of” is to miss the fear altogether.
07PoetrySeptember
Light falling through the window / a coffee left half-finished on the desk / and a sentence not yet spoken…
08EssaysThe beauty of slowing down
Beautiful things made in haste age quickly. A smile, like a sentence, ripens with time.
09EssaysThe person beneath the white coat
Sometimes my patients want to see not the coat, but the person wearing it. So do I.
10Clinic NotesWhat to bring to your first appointment
A photograph, a list of questions and a little curiosity. The rest we talk through together.
11BooksOn my desk: April
Three books kept me company this month; one slowed me down, one made me laugh, one made me think.
12BooksHow the cover of Sade came to be
I wanted it as simple as a child’s drawing, as personal as a letter.
13RitualsThe quiet of lavender
The only thing I added to my evening routine was a single drop of lavender. What changed was so much more.
14RitualsOral care as the seasons turn
Lips that dry out in winter, habits that shift in spring… Small adjustments make a big difference.
15PoetryThe trace on a coffee cup
A trace of coffee, the width of a lip / forgotten on the rim of the cup / the sketch of a smile…
16PoetryMirror
The woman looking back at me / is still smiling as she finishes / a sentence left over from last night…
Sade
I see dentistry not merely as a profession that offers treatment, but as a whole made of trust, aesthetics and a truly personal approach.
I listen carefully to what each patient needs, bringing scientific knowledge together with natural, refined results to create a plan that is theirs alone. Writing is an extension of that same listening: noticing what lies between the lines.
